Dr. Eleonore Sterling, Jewish Telegraphic Agency correspondent for West Germany, today was awarded one of the two coveted Leo Baeck citations, given annually by the Central Council of Jews in Germany for outstanding contributions to German Jewry. The other prizewinner this year is an Israeli scholar, Dr. Shalom Ben-Gurion of Jerusalem.
The award was established three years ago in memory of Dr. Baeck, late Chief Rabbi of Germany and noted Jewish scholar. Dr. Sterling’s citation was for her “Early History of Anti-Semitism in Germany: 1815-1850,” published four years ago in Munich. In addition to being the JTA correspondent in West Germany, she teaches political science at the University of Frankfurt. The award to Dr. Ben-Chorin was for his most recent work, “An Interpretation of Recent History in Terms of Old Testament Teaching,” published at Hamburg in 1956.
