Establishment of the first direct radio printer circuit between New York and Tel Aviv was announced here by Louis P. Rocker, president of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.
The circuit went into operation today for the transmission of JTA news from New York to the Israeli News Agency in Tel Aviv, a JTA affiliate, for distribution to the newspapers of Israel. The new system replaces Morse code and transmits news at the rate of 66 words per minute.
For this circuit, the JTA operates two Press Wireless transmitters on Long Island. The news is received by the Israeli News Agency’s own station in Tel Aviv.
Other JTA news transmissions to Israel will be converted to automatic operation as rapidly as conditions permit, Mr. Rocker said. He expressed the hope that JTA would be able to complete its program for mechanization of all its radio circuits throughout the world by the end of 1955. Earlier this year, JTA opened a radio printer circuit to the JTA bureau in Rio de Janeiro.
