The National Jewish Welfare Board today announced the establishment of a JWB Manpower Commission to develop new directions and programs aimed at “overcoming the manpower crisis in the Jewish Community Center field both to fill immediate shortages and cope with long range needs.”
The JWB Manpower Commission will consist of 35 to 40 key laymen and professionals drawn from JWB’s board of directors, the Center field at large and the existing JWB Personnel Services, Recruitment and Scholarship Committees. The work of the latter three committees will be integrated into the Manpower Commission.
The immediate tasks of the JWB Manpower Commission will be to identify the issues and problems creating the crisis; to outline new directions and programs for dealing with these issues and problems; to unify current JWB manpower programs; to provide operational guidance for JWB manpower projects, and to recommend to JWB’s board of directors required new approaches and the resources needed for their implementation. There are now over 160 staff vacancies in the Center field, with an additional 100 vacancies not listed since they are temporarily filled by untrained workers.
