A resolution urging the United States to reaffirm its pledge to maintain peace in the Middle East “in the face of the Arab League’s threat to Israel,” was adopted here today at the 35th annual convention of the New York Department of the Jewish War Veterans.
In another resolution, the delegates asked the Senate to ratify the United Nations Convention Against Genocide to assure that mass destruction of human beings, such as the Nazi murders of Egyptian Jewry, should never again befall any people. The resolution asserted that failure of the United States to approve the convention, ratified by 65 other UN member nations, “has impaired our position as a world leader in the struggle to protect and advance human rights and individual freedom.”
The delegates also recommended to the United States Attorney General the placement of the American Nazi party on the government’s list of subversive organizations. They condemened the West German Government for continuing to allow its nationals to work on advanced weapons systems for the Egyptian Government and called on all Americans to protest the discrimination by the Soviet Government against Russian Jewry.
In another resolution, the war veterans asked the New York State Legislature to extend to the entire state the option given to New York City to permit Sabbatarians observing a Sabbath day other than Sunday to conduct business activities on that day.
