Jacob Mazel, one of the founders and directors of HIAS, who was active in Jewish affairs for about 50 years, died here last night while visiting Chicago.
Born in Klech. Byelorussia, he immigrated to the United States as a young man and worked on the editorial staff of the Jewish Morning Journal. After World War I, he was sent by HIAS to Poland as its first commissioner and directed the emigration of thousands of Jews from there to the United States.
