Jacob Mestel, noted Jewish author and actor, died at his home here last night. He was 74 years old. He is the author of a two-volume work, “War Notes Of A Jewish Officer,” describing his experiences in World War I, as an officer in the Austrian Army. He is also the author of several books of Jewish poetry and dramatic work.
Born in Zlotshev, Galicia, he studied at the Vienna Conservatory. When World War I was over, he came to the United States and devoted himself to the Jewish theatre. He was a member of the Yiddish Art Theatre for many years. He also played Jewish theatres in Latin America.
