Jacob Schaefer, 46, known as the father of Jewish proletarian music in this country, died yesterday morning of a heart attack in his Bronx home. He founded the Freiheit Gesangverein in Chicago in 1912, which later developed into an international organization with branches throughout the world. In 1933, Mr. Schaefei was winner of second prize in a Soviet international contest with his oratorio “Sturmvogel,” based on a Maxim Gorki poem.
