Jacob Schneider, founder of the first Zionist group, “Tiferet Zion,” in Rio de Janeiro in 1913, died here at the age of 88 after a long illness. Schneider arrived here from Bessarabia in 1903 while there were only a few Jewish families in Rio. He was the founder of more than a dozen community institutions and was considered one of the most influential community leaders. He was particularly known for his activity in the Keren Hayesod for half a century.
