Jacob Gould Schurman, former ambassador to Germany, arrived in New York aboard the Bremen yesterday afternoon, after completing a four months’ trip to Europe, the Near East, and Egypt.
Mr. Schurman refused to discuss the German situation or to comment on European politics.
Mr. Schurman, a well known educator before he entered diplomatic life, studied and taught in many German academies, including the universities of Heidelberg, Berlin, Gottingen and Marburg, as well as other European schools.
Besides being ambassador to Germany, Mr. Schurman served the American Government in Greece, Montenegro, the Philippines, and China.
