Funeral services were held here today for Jacob H. Cohen, an industrialist and philanthropist who was active in a wide variety of Jewish causes. A long-time resident of Brooklyn, he died yesterday at the age of 92.
Born in Russia, he came to the United States in 1900. He established a lumber company of which he was president until his death. He contributed tens of thousands of dollars to Jewish religious, charitable, health and other organizations.
He had been active in the Zionist Organization of America and had been an honorary vice-president and a director of the Jewish Education Committee of New York. He had been a trustee of the United Jewish Appeal of Greater New York and a member of the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute. He made a substantial contribution to the John F. Kennedy Memorial Scholarship Fund set up recently by the Weizmann Institute Committee. He had been treasurer of the American Association for Jewish Education.
He was founder of the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of Greater New York. He was also honorary president of the Pride of Judea Children’s Services of Brooklyn.
