Jacobson Says Aliya from the U.S. Faces Revolutionary Change

The promotion of aliya from the United States faces a “revolutionary change,” Charlotte Jacobson, chairman of the World Zionist Organization-American Section, told the WZO Executive in Jerusalem yesterday, Mrs. Jacobson said that thanks to an initiative of Pinhas Sapir, chairman of the Executive, there is now communal organization for the promotion of aliya. She reported that all Jewish and Zionist organizations in the U.S. are taking part in the concerted effort to increase aliya.

This new project is geared so that “each Jewish family should recognize aliya as one of the major avenues of Jewish life,” Mrs. Jacobson said. She stated that there is now more interest in aliya than there was in the past.

Leon Dulzin, treasurer of the Jewish Agency, informed the Executive of a scheduled large-scale project to enlarge the scope of Jewish education in South America. This project too, is underway as a result of Sapir’s initiative, he said. Following Sapir’s tour in that part of the world he expressed deep concern over the deterioration of Jewish education there.

As a result of Sapir’s tour, Dulzin visited South American countries and went from town to town to learn the specific educational needs of each community. The Executive’s aim now is to double the number of students in South American Jewish schools within a few years, Dulzin reported. The WZO Executive, the Jewish. Agency and the local communities will also devote special attention to an improvement of the educational system standards.
