A large part of the life work of Jacques Lipchitz, world-known Jewish sculptor, was destroyed in a fire here which demolished the building in which Mr. Lipchitz’ studio was located.

Mr. Lipchitz, whose works are represented in numerous museums in this country and in Europe, came to the United States in 1941 after the occupation of France by the Nazis. The 60-year-old sculptor said that the great loss caused to him by the fire “could not possibly be estimated in terms of money. ” One of the worst losses was a 12-foot high statue commissioned for Fairmont Park in Philadelphia.
