A military appeals court has upheld a five-day jail sentence ordered last year against a Swiss army officer who insulted a Jewish recruit.
In addition, the officer, a lieutenant, will not be promoted.
The officer and Jewish recruit were identified only by their initials, according to Swiss media tradition. The officer was identified as H.K. and the recruit as F.B.
“This condemnation will put an end to (H.K.’s) military career,” said Christian Kurth, the spokesman for the Swiss army. “It was inadmissible for a military leader to make anti-Semitic remarks,” he said.
“The army cannot afford any form of racism or discrimination,” he said.
