Joseph Jakoby, Jewish colonist of Nahalal, succumbed this morning in a Haifa Hospital to wounds received when a bomb thrown by an unknown was exploded in his home on December 22nd.
Mr. Jakoby is the second fatality in his family. His nine year old son died on Sunday. The father’s hand was amputated and it was believed that he was out of danger when his death suddenly occurred.
The Palestine government today announced a reward of five hundred pounds for the apprehension of the bombers.
Funeral services held this afternoon were converted into a great outcry against the inadequate protection accorded the Jews. The general consensus of opinion is that the bomb was thrown as part of an organized Arab political terrorization plot.
Representatives of the Jewish Agency, the Palestine Jewish National Council and other central Jewish bodies attended the services. The funeral cortege included virtually the entire population of Nahalal as well as of neighboring colonies.
Speakers included Dr. Chaim Arlosoroff, Ben Gurion, Ben Zvi and Sprinzak, all of whom emphasized the need for Jewish self-defense and a larger Jewish immigration. “To replace one Jewish family killed, a thousand new families must come,” speakers declared.
Mr. Jakoby came to Palestine from the United States eleven years ago. He studied agriculture in California.
