United Nations Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjold has information about the position of Egyptian Jewry, but he has not as yet revealed “the full facts in his possession,” Barnett Janner, president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, charged today at a meeting of the Board. Mr. Janner, who is also a Labor Party member of Parliament, has just returned from the United States where, among other places, he visited the United Nations.

Mr. Hammarskjold is being urged to release the facts, Mr. Janner stated, “because it is extremely important that the world should know the manner in which Jews are being treated in Egypt.” The Egyptians, said Mr. Janner, “are trying to explants away their actions, as did the Nazis in the early days of Jewish persecutions in Germany. But the dastardly acts of the Egyptian authorities must be made known to the world.”

Mr. Janner reported that he discussed the situation of Egyptian Jewry in Washington last week with the British Am ambassador to the United States. Sir Harold Caccia, and also conferred on the matter at the United Nations with Britain’s delegation chief there, Sir Pierson Dikon. He said he was quite certain that both these British representatives would bring the facts about Egypt’s anti-Jewish persecutions to the attention of “senior U.S. officials'” because “these facts are of deep concern to our community.”
