The Japanese authorities in Shanghai today ordered a new registration of all Jewish refugees residing in the Japanese section of the city. The measure was taken as a result of the growing tense situation in the Far East coupled with increased anti-Semitic propaganda.
Simultaneously, Jewish and Polish refugees from Poland stranded in Shanghai today started a movement to secure the permission of the Soviet authorities to proceed from Shanghai to the Soviet far-eastern port of Vladivostok. From there they hope either to sail to overseas lands or to join their relatives now released from internment in Russia under the Russo-Polish pact. It was pointed out here among the refugees from Poland, that since Poland and Soviet Russia are now allies, there may be no difficulties in securing Soviet visas which would enable many to leave Shanghai either for Vladivostok or for other places in the Soviet interior.
