United Nations peace emissary Dr. Gunnar V. Jarring was expected to be in Cairo on Friday to meet with Egyptian Foreign Minister Murad Ghaleb, according to this morning’s Al Ahram, the semi-official Cairo daily. The report could not be confirmed here by tonight. Al Ahram said there was actually little hope for a resumption of the Jarring mission, what with the intermediary still maintaining that Israel must give a prior commitment to withdraw and Israel continuing to reject that requirement.
