Dr. Joseph Schwartz, European director of the Joint Distribution Committee, has arrived in Paris for a series of conferences with Allied authorities, the French Government and Jewish leaders in connection with plans for an extended program for relief and rehabilitation of the Jews in France which will soon be launched by the JDC.
Dr. Schwartz announced that the first relief funds transmitted directly from the United States have arrived here. Work of regrouping the various committees which will carry out the day-to-day relief activities has already begun, he said.
The JDC director met here today with Sir Herbert Emerson, director of the Intergovernmental Refugee Committee, who is passing through Paris on route to England from Switzerland.
Dr. Schwartz said that he is leaving soon for Switzerland in connection with problems of aiding Hungarian and Slovakian Jews, and also to investigate the prospects of aiding the Jews of Rumania, He will then visit Belgium before returning here for an extended stay.
