A junior high school in Mexico City, destroyed in the September 19, 1985 earthquake, is holding classes in a new building built through the combined efforts of the American and Mexican Jewish communities, which raised $2.5 million for the purpose, the Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) announced.
The JDC responded to the Mexican disaster with a “JDC Open Mailbox” which funnels contributions by American Jews toward non-sectarian disaster relief.
