Jean Longuet, former Socialist deputy in the French Chamber and grandson of Karl Marx, died here today of injuries received in an automobile accident. He was 62.
Long a leading figure in French Socialism, Longuet for many years represented the French Socialist Party in the executive committee of the Socialist (Second) International. He played an important role in the party councils under the leadership of Jean Jaures prior to the great war. Subsequent to the conflict he helped lead the fight against the adherence of the party to the Communist (Third) international.
