Jean-Paul Elkann, a 61-year-old businessman, has been elected acting president of the representative Council of Major French Jewish Organizations (CRIF). He is replacing Alain de Rothschild who died of a heart attack last month. The CRIF announced that a new president for a three-year term will be elected in January. Elkann, a graduate of Columbia University, also heads the French Jewish Consistory and plays a leading role in a large number of other Jewish organizations. A member of the French Legion of Honor, he is a vice president of Givenchy and also serves on the board of several other major French corporation.
