Joseph Kellerwine, an architect of Jerusalem, has been awarded the first prize for his proposed monument to Theodor Herzl, founder of modern Zionism. The monument will be erected on Mt. Herzl. A jury of architects from ten countries, including the United States and Britain, made the decision. Second prize went to Joseph Danziger, a London architect.
Special memorial services were held last night on Mt. Herzl here for Dr. Herzl and for Chaim Nachman Bialik, noted Hebrew poet, on the eve of the anniversary of their death. Members of the Cabinet, Parliament, Jewish Agency and various Israeli youth groups participated in the ceremony, which was broadcast over Kol Israel, the government radio station.
