DR. NATHAN RATNOFF, CHAIRMAN OF THE AMERICAN JEWISH PHYSICIANS COMMITTEE, ANNOUNCED TODAY AS HE RETURNED ABOARD THE ILE DE FRANCE FROM A TRIP TO PALESTINE THAT THE NEW 250-BED HADASSAH-ROTHSCHILD UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL AND MEDICAL SCHOOL AT THE HEBREW UNIVERSITY IN JERUSALEM WOULD OPEN IN SEPTEMBER.
THE NEW HOSPITAL-MEDICAL SCHOOL UNIT, SPONSORED BY HADASSAH AND THE AMERICAN JEWISH PHYSICIANS COMMITTEE, HAS BEEN IN THE PLANNING SINCE FIFTEEN YEARS AGO, WHEN THE COMMITTEE BOUGHT THE LAND. THE COMMITTEE WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1921 AS A RESULT OF A TRIP TO THE UNITED STATES BY PROFESSOR ALBERT EINSTEIN IN BEHALF OF THE UNIVERSITY.
“THE UNIT IS THE LAST WORD IN MODERN HOSPITAL AND CLINICAL CONSTRUCTION AND EQUIPMENT,” DR. RATNOFF SAID. “IT WILL SERVE ALL ALIKE, REGARDLESS OF RACE OR CREED. MEDICINE IS A GREAT PEACE-MAKER. THE JEWISH PEOPLE IN PALESTINE ARE GOING TO SHOW THE WORLD WHAT TOLERANCE MEANS. THE HOSPITAL AND MEDICAL COLLEGE WILL HELP THEM TO DO IT.”
