Jerusalem Jewish Council Protests Against Moles. Tations at Wailing Wall

The protest and resentment of Jerusalem Jewry against the frequent attacks on worshippers at the Wailing Wall, was expressed in a resolution which was adopted at a general meeting of the Vaad Ha’ir, the Council of Jerusalem Jews. The resolution demands that the Government issue a special ordinance against this molestation, that a public movement be organized to put a stop to such incidents, and that a commission of lawyers be appointed to collect material relating to the rights of the Jews to their Holy Places and particularly to the Wailing Wall.

It was also decided to ask the Vaad Leumi, the Council of Palestine Jews, and the Palestine Zionist Executive to make representations to the Government to hasten the promulgation of the Jewish Communities Ordinance.

YESHIVA CORNERSTONE LAYING IS POSTPONED

The cornerstone laying for the Yeshiva of America which was to have been held on December 5th, has been postponed to an early date in the spring, according to an announcement made by Harris L. Selig, Executive Director.

The postponement was made at the request of the Building Committee which believes that it would be well to wait until the exterior of the first group of buildings will be completed.

Although the contractors have rushed work on the buildings, only the steel outline could possibly be completed by December 5, the original date of the cornerstone laying.

The Conference of Jewish Charities, which is a constituent of the Community Chest of Newark, N. J., is scheduled to receive $271,000 or nearly 25 per cent of the $1,092,231, as its budget requirement for next year. The largest contributions to the campaign were made by Louis Bamberger and Mr. and Mrs. Felix Fuld. Mr. Bamberger contributed $25,000 and Mr. and Mrs. Fuld a like amount. Jews of the city were among the largest donors, Michael, Albert and Benjamin Hollander contributing together $10,000; and the firm of Eisele amp; King of which Nathaniel King, president of B’nai Jeshurun is a partner, $10,000. Among the other larger contributions by Jews were: Louis V. Aronson, $3,500; M. A. Augenblick amp; Bros., $3,000; William E. Lehman and Frank I. Liveright, $2,500 each; K. Kaufman amp; Co., $2,000.

The next general membership meeting of the Women’s Branch of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America will take the form of a symposium on Jewish family life. It will be held at the Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue, New York City, on December 7th.

The speakers on this occasion will be Dr. Charles D. Spivak, of Denver, Mrs. Moses Hyamson, and Mrs. Isidore Fischman. Mrs. Herbert S. Goldstein, president of the Women’s Branch, will preside.
