A street was dedicated here by the city today in the name of the late Rabbi Stephen S. Wise. The new Stephen S. Wise Street is in the area where the Israel Government’s complex of buildings is being constructed.
Mayor Mordechai Ish-Shalom, who presided at the ceremonies, read a message from Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, who declared: “Stephen Wise’s name is linked unalterably to the land of Israel. Along with the late Justice Louis D. Brandeis, Rabbi Wise was the greatest leader of American Jewry in the first half of the Twentieth Century. “
Among the participants in the ceremonies were Moshe Sharett, chairman of the Jewish Agency executive; and Dr. Nelson Glueck, of Cincinnati, president of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion; and Dr. Avraham Granott, president of the Jewish National Fund. Attending were also a group of 40 Israel bond leaders from Chicago. The ribbon to the new street was cut by a member of that group, J. Krensky, of Chicago.
