Fifteen members of the Herut youth movement who tried to hold prayer services in the Temple Mount area in East Jerusalem on Tisha B’Av, dispersed peacefully after police ordered them out of the area. The Temple Mount, site of the Mosque of Omar and the El Aksa Mosque, is controlled by the Waqf, the Moslem religious council, and is out of bounds to Jewish worshippers.

The Herut youths were accompanied by Gahal City Councilman Gershon Solomon. Solomon said afterwards that he would appeal to the Premier and the Defense Minister to abolish the restrictions in the Temple Mount area.
