All tenants will be obliged to share in the cost of constructing air raid shelters in Jerusalem apartment houses, the municipality has announced. Tenants in houses built before July, 1945 will have to pay half the cost with the landlord paying the remainder.
Tenants in houses constructed after July, 1945 will have to pay a quarter of the cost. In multiple dwellings, the cost will be pro-rated among the tenants on the basis of number of rooms occupied. In many houses built since the liberation war, shelters which were built according to law were subsequently converted into apartments and “sold” or rented.
