DIVISION OF THE CITY OF JERUSALEM INTO TWO SEPARATE POLITICAL AREAS, UNDER DISTINCT GOVERNMENTS, IS INCLUDED AMONG THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE BRITISH ROYAL COMMISSION FOR PALESTINE, THE LONDON EVENING STAR REPORTED TODAY.
THE STAR SAID IT UNDERSTANDS THE ROYAL COMMISSION MADE A DISTINCTION BETWEEN THE OLD CITY, WITH ITS CHRISTIAN, JEWISH AND MOHAMMEDAN HOLY PLACES, AND THE MODERN NEW CITY CREATED BY THE JEWS. THE COMMISSION RECOMMENDED, THE NEWSPAPER SAID, THAT THE NEW CITY BE GIVEN ITS OWN GOVERNMENT, WHILE THE OLD CITY REMAIN AS A SPECIAL AREA UNDER BRITISH MANDATE.
