Dr. Nachman Schapiro has been appointed Assistant Professor in Semitics at the University of Lithuania. Dr. Shapiro is the second Jew to hold a professorship at the Lithuanian university.
Dr. Nachman Schapiro is the son of the Chief Rabbi of Kovno. He is a graduate of the University of Vienna.
A. E. Lefcourt, real estate operator, purchased the Hotel Normandie, at Broadway and Thirty-eighth Street, New York. The transaction involved more than a million dollars. In taking title to the Hotel Normandie Mr. Lefcourt registered his second purchase of Broadway hotels and old landmarks. In 1922 he purchased the old Marlboro Hotel, and on its site there now stands the twenty-two story Lefcourt-Marlboro Building.
Forty years ago. Mr. Lefcourt, then a boy of nine, sold newspapers in front of the Hotel Normandie.
