Selim Harrari, a Jewish candidate to the Lebanese parliament running as an independent, was obliged to withdraw his candidacy, due to pressure exerted by the Government Party, it is reported here.
It was asserted that the leaders of the Jewish community were given to understand that the government expects the Jewish population to support the pro-government candidate. A Jewish deputation subsequently called upon the Acting High Commissioner and upon the President of the Republic regarding this matter. An inquiry was promised.
