M. Z. Hurwitz, leading department store owner of this city, has been named as general chairman of the mayor’s committee of 100 to supervise the tri-centennial celebration of Hoboken which occurs on June 20. Mr. Hurwitz is the only Jew in Hudson County to serve on the board of Christ Hospital, the Boy Scouts and the Y.M.C.A.

In connection with the tri-centennial of Hoboken it is recalled that the history of the Jewish community goes back to fully a century. Among the first residents Bavarian Jewish names are predominant, and they are dry goods merchants, storekeepers, department store owners, realtors and also professionals.
