A Jew was appointed here yesterday to the Cabinet of the Republic of El Salvador. He is Dr. Orlando de Sola, who has been named Minister of Health and Welfare.
This is the first time a Jew has been named to a Cabinet post in any of the Central American republics. Dr. de Sola is a member of an old Jewish family that settled in the Dutch West Indies some 200 years ago. He is related to Rabbi David de Sola Pool, the spiritual leader of Shearith Israel, the Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue, of New York.
