The Jewish Agency Executive will convene a special meeting in Jerusalem Sunday and Monday to consider new priorities for an Israel at peace, Max M. Fisher, chairman of the Agency Board of Governors, announced today. The meeting, at which Lean Dulzin, chairman of the Jewish Agency Executive, will preside, will reconsider its agenda for 1979-80 in view of the price of peace, the mounting expectation of 40,000 immigrants arriving this year, and the necessity of proceeding with Project Renewal.
To meet these new priorities, the Agency is preparing a $405 million budget for 1979-80, some $55 million more than last year, but still $115 million less than what the Agency feels it requires to fulfill its mission of immigrant absorption and to strengthen the people of Israel. Attending the Jewish Agency Executive from the United States along with Fisher will be Jerold Hoffberger, chairman of the United Israel Appeal, Frank Lautenberg, president of the United Jewish Appeal, and Charlotte Jacobson, chairman of the World Zionist Organization-American Section.
The possibilities of peace are already reflected in the growing number of immigrants arriving in Israel, Fisher and Dulzin announced. The 40,000 expected this year represent a significant increase over the 25,000 who arrived in 1978, they noted.
