Jewish Activities in the Metropolitan Area

The Restaurant Division of the Brooklyn Federation of Jewish Charities will conduct “Restaurant Federation Day” on Monday, April 30, in an endeavor to complete its quota of $10,000 in the Federation’s $500,000 twenty-fifth anniversary campaign, it was announced Friday by Rudolph Scherl, chairman, following a meeting of campaign officials.

The two thousand and five restaurants in Brooklyn will be asked to contribute five per cent of the gross receipts on that day toward the division’s allotment in the drive. The movement is sponsored by the Brooklyn Federation Owner’s Association, Inc., and many independent establishments.

Supreme Court Justice Mitchell May, president of the Federation; County Judge Algeron I. Nova, chairman of the $500,000 campaign, and Michael M. Nisselson, director of the Trade and Membership Council, the Federation’s money-raising organization, spoke during the meeting, setting forth the serious plight of the Federation in raising funds to support the twenty-five constituent societies in their endeavor to meet the constantly increased appeals for relief being made from every side. The division assured the speakers that they would bend every effort to meet and even increase the $10,000 quota.

Lowenstein, Simon Adler, Harry Ocke, Abraham Stein, Philip Stein, Abraham Sokal, Michael Zeldow, Samuel Rutter, Jack Fischer, William Michel, and Harold Pinups, executive secretary of the Brooklyn Restaurant Owners’ Association, are co-chairmen.
