Headed by Walter N. Rothschild of Abraham & Strauss, Major Benjamin H. Namm of The Namm Store and Harry Zeitz of Martin’s, a group of leading Brooklyn merchants issued an appeal to Manhattan’s businessmen, including retailers and manufacturers in the apparel and other industries, to rally to the support of the Brooklyn Federation of Jewish Charities in its $500,000 twenty-fifth anniversary drive to meet the budget needs of its affiliated organizations.
Addressed to both employers and workers, the message called attention to the fact that about fifty per cent of workers employed in stores, offices and factories in Manhattan depended for social services, hospital medical care and other welfare needs on Brooklyn agencies, as they are residents of Brooklyn.
Workers are reminded in the message that the Brooklyn Federation is a form of insurance against sickness, poverty, old age and other dependencies, and everyone should provide for his own protection, even though he may never need institutional care.
Manhattan headquarters of the Federation are at 1441 Broadway.
