Harry Greenstein, adviser on Jewish affairs to the U.S. Army high command in Europe, warned today that the closing of the Jewish DP caps in Germany and Austria before the end of 1949 was dependent on Israel’s ability to continue to receive unlimited immigration. In a message from his headquarters in Heidelberg to the United Jewish Appeal, Greenstein stressed the "critical need of funds" to enable the Jewish state to receive the immigrants who are now coming in at the rate of 30,000 per month.
