The Jewish Agency today announced its “complete and wholehearted” support for the program and goal of World Refugee Year despite its already heavy commitments toward Jewish immigration to Israel.
The statement of support was made by Moshe Benavenisti, Jewish Agency representative to the International Committee for World Refugee Year which began today. He spoke at the committee’s plenary here.
Odd Nansen, president of the Norwegian National Committee for World Refugee Year, told the session that the only hope for the solution of the world refugee problem, which he said has not reached “alarming proportions” was in “instant action on the part of a world whose conscience has at last been aroused.”
