The Jewish Agency for Palestine has asked the Palestine Government for an allotment of 11,800 labor immigration certificates for the six-month period ending April, 1937, it was announced today.
If the request is granted it would permit the entry of about 25,000 Jewish immigrants in the labor category.
Previously it had been reported the Government had agreed to issuance of 8,00 certificates on condition that the immigrants enter the country by November. This is believed to have been rejected by the Agency on the grounds that the condition is impossible of fulfillment.
Jewish immigration, which last year totalled more than 60,000, was the cardinal issue of the recently-ended six-month Arab general strike which cost more than 400 Arab, Jewish and British lives and approximately $14,000,000 in property destruction.
