The Jewish Agency for Palestine has requested 24,700 immigration certificates for the half-year from October to March, from the immigration department of the Palestinian government, it was learned here today, although it was impossible to obtain any confirmation of the report.
The memorandum which was submitted stated the fullest details on which the demands for the labor immigration certificates were based.
The demand for labor certificates from the Palestinian government has been a source of constant dispute between the Agency and the Palestinian government. In the report of the Executive to the Eighteenth World Zionist Congress, this was aired and strongly condemned by the Executive, and a new system of determining the number of immigrants was urged. The report stated that in one case where a thousand certificates were asked for, the government granted only four hundred. Similar instances were given, in every case the government granting only a fraction of the certificates asked for.
