The Jewish Agency today vigorously denied a British allegation that Soviet authorities are assisting the immigration of visaless Jews from European countries to Palestine.
A spokesman for the Jewish Agency revealed that the British intelligence service this month distributed a document marked “secret” in which it was insinuated that the Soviet Union is assisting the emigration of Jows to the west, thus helping them to reach Palestine “illegally”.
The spokesman also revealed that 1,600 Palestinian Jews are now being detained without charges. Eight hundred are held at the Raffa camp, 500 at Latrun and 300 in Eritrean concentration camps, he charged, adding that 5,500 Jews have been arrested at one time or another since 1944, not including Jews detained for periods of a few days only.
