David Stern, chief of the Agricultural Department of the Jewish Agency, has arrived here from Palestine en route to the Dominican Republic where he will make a survey of the Jewish settlement and report his findings to the Agrojoint. He is making his trip at the invitation of the Agrojoint in New York.
In an interview with the Jewish Telegraphic Agency today Mr. Stern expressed the view that Palestine will be able to easily adjust itself in the transition period from war to peace, if the government will only cooperate in Jewish economic plans. large markets, he said, are open in all neighboring countries for Palestine-made goods and Palestine is in a position to compete in workmanship with any country.
An expert in colonization, Mr. Stern is of the opinion that Palestine Jews now serving in the armed forces will face no unemployment upon their return to civil life, since there is place for them in the agricultural development of the country. He emphasized that the Palestine Government must facilitate the settlement of the Jewish war veterans by granting land for colonization which will be carried out with the aid of Jewish funds.
Mr. Stern said that the Jews in Palestine will strongly oppose any partition scheme. He pointed out that much land can still be acquired. There is a tremendous shortage of houses, he declared, predicting a building boom as soon as the war is over.
