An institute on the teaching of Hebrew as a language of communication was held here this week-end under the auspices of the Jewish Agency and the American Association of Jewish Education. Dr. Leon E. Dostert, director of the Institute of Languages and Linguistics of the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, called for a fundamental re-orientation in the teaching of foreign languages in the United States.
Dr. Samuel M. Blumenfield, head of the Agency’s Department of Education and Culture, urged a “closer fellowship among those engaged in the furtherance of Jewish Education and the Hebrew renaissance. “He predicted that history would accord the “miracle” of the revitalization of the Hebrew language and culture as “one of the more significant and unique cultural phenomena of our times.”
