The Jewish Agency today officially informed United Nations Secretary-General Trygve Lie that it no longer claims or exercises representation of Jewish interests in Palestine. This authority had been passed to the State of Israel with reorganization of the Agency as a separate body, the communication said.
In its cable to Lie, the Jewish Agency expressed its “deepest appreciation for all the facilities and courtesies accorded to its representatives privileged to appear before the United Nations, and for assistance granted them by yourself and your staff.”
In a second cable, signed by Eliahu Dobkin as acting chairman of the Jewish Agency, it expressed its horror at the “dastardly murder” of Count Folke Bernadotte and Col. Andre Serot. “In condemning this shocking crime, the executive of the Jewish Agency calls on the Jewish people as a whole and on the Zionist movement, as well as every individual Jew wherever he may be, to extend the fullest assistance in uprooting the plague of terrorism in Israel, in order to create a regime where such heinous crimes will be impossible,” the cable stated.
