Plans to facilitate the immigration to Israel of some 30, 000 Jews from various European countries and North Africa were worked out here at a conference of Jewish Agency immigration directors from 12 different countries.
Special emphasis was laid on the need to bring 8,000 Jews from southern Tunisia to Israel. It was also decided to attempt to attract more middle class immigrants to the Jewish State, and to improve the health of immigrants while they were waiting to go to Israel.
(A total of 23, 700 immigrants arrived in Israel in 1952, according to provisional figures released in Jerusalem today by the Jewish Agency. Included in the total are the following figures; from Morocco, Tunis and Algiers, 7,652; from Tripoli, 1,150; from Persia, 4,860; from Rumania- -during the first few months of the year only 3, 712; from various European countries, 1.060; and from various American countries, 800.)
