Strengthening of the American Zionist Council and the transfer of certain Jewish Agency functions to the Council were discussed by Premier David Ben Gurion and Rabbi Irving Miller, president of the Zionist Organization of America, during Rabbi Miller’s recent visit to Israel, Dr. Nahum Goldmann, Jewish Agency chairman, told a press conference today.
He said that Rabbi Miller had promised to discuss the question with various Z.O.A. leaders, after which the leaders of the Zionist groups in the United States would come to Israel several days in advance of the forthcoming Zionist Actions Committee meeting here next month, and would discuss the revitalization of the Zionist Council with the Premier and both chairmen of the Agency.
Dr. Goldmann expressed the hope that this development would lead to a reorganization of the Zionist groups in the U.S. looking toward a convocation of an American Zionist Congress from which a Zionist Federation of America might emerge.
