The democratisation of the Jewish Agency will be good for the non-Zionists as well as for the Zionists is the opinion expressed here to-day by Mr. Efroikin, the representative of the non-Zionists of France in the Jewish Agency Council.
In an interview with the Jewish Telegraphic Agency Mr. Efroikin stated that the debate with regard to the re-organisation of the Jewish Agency and its democratisation was the most important part of the last session of the Jewish Agency Council in Basle. All those who participated in this session, Mr. Efrokin said, are well aware that the continuation of the activities of the Jewish Agency in its present form is impossible. When the Jewish Agency consists of several individual personalities only, it can neither develop a wide scope of activities nor create for itself an important position in Jewish life. In these circumstances the existence of the Jewish Agency in its present constituent form is of no use to Palestine. When, however, the non-Zionist part of the Jewish Agency is reorganised, then it can be converted into an independent force which can create new possibilities for Palestine by attracting those great masses of the Jewish people which are not influenced by the Zionist Organisation.
Certain circles in the Zionist Organisation, Mr. Efroikin continued, are of the opinion that the democratisation of the Jewish Agency may lead to serious differences of opinion, and even to a conflict with the Zionist Organisation. The majority of the Zionist Organisation, however, does not share this opinion. It is perhaps not excluded that such results should follow. Should this, however, happen, party interests must be subordinated to Jewish patriotism. The Zionist Organisation must assist the Jewish Agency to interest the Jewish masses in a more concentrated effort for the development of Palestine, Mr. Efroikin concluded.
