Jewish Agency headquarters for Tunisia were opened here today, with the participation of Elie Pelig, director of the Oriental Department of the Jewish Agency’s Paris bureau.
Mr. Pelig declared that Zionism must become a popular movement in North Africa, applying its emancipatory principles to backward, patriarchal conditions which to a large extent caused difficulties for Israel in absorbing immigrants from those regions. Mr. Pelig denounced the indifference of some wealthy North African Jews toward their less fortunate brethren.
