The Jewish Agency is planning a concerted drive to win over Jewish youth abroad who are opposed to Zionism or indifferent to it. According to Aryeh L. Pincus, Jewish Agency chairman, 200 emissaries will converge on summer camps in the United States to try to influence the “fence sitters” and those “who deny Jewish peoplehood and the right of Israel to exist as a state.”
He estimated that the emissaries will reach about 50,000 American Jewish youth in the camps. He said Zionist emissaries are already active on 100 American college campuses and their numbers may be increased to cover more universities with large Jewish student bodies.
At a press conference today, Mr. Pincus outlined plans for re-organizing and broadening the Jewish Agency to include representatives of the various fund-raising agencies all over the world. The program stems from decisions of the last World Zionist Congress. Mr. Pincus said that a “Jewish Agency Assembly” to be convened for the first time next October or November would elect a new Jewish Agency executive.
The Assembly will consist of 148 delegates from the World Zionist Organizations, 89 from American fund-raising agencies and 59 from fund-raising agencies in the rest of the world. He said the plan would be brought before the Zionist General Council (Actions Committee) when it convenes here shortly.
