The 70th birthday of Dr. Isaac Schwarzbart, World Jewish Congress and Zionist leader, was marked by a luncheon given in his honor in the Delmonico Hotel today by the joint executives of the Jewish Agency and the World Jewish Congress.
Tributes to Dr. Schwarzbart’s 50 years of service to Jewry were paid by Dr. Nahum Goldmann, president of the World Zionist Organization and of the WJC; Simcha Pratt, Israel Consul-General in New York; Dr. Israel Goldstein, chairman of the Western Hemisphere executive of the WJC and Anselm Reiss, on behalf of the Israel executive of the World Jewish Congress.
Dr. Schwarzbart, who is WJC director of organization, received birthday greetings from Israeli President Itzhak Ben Zvi, Ambassador Abba Eban,. Knesset Speaker Yosef Sprinzak, and from Jewish leaders and communities throughout the world. Dr. Schwarzbart was a member of the Polish Parliament for Cracow in 1938. He was a member of the Polish Parliament in Exile in 1940-45. In 1946 Dr. Schwarzbart came to the United States and has headed the WJC’s Organization Department in New York since then. He has been a member of the Actions Committee of the World Zionist Organization since 1933.
