Jewish and Christian clergymen led a peaceful demonstration and prayer service outside of the Iraqi Embassy here today. The clergymen of both faiths recited memorial prayers for the two Jews and two Christians among the 15 Iraqis executed in Baghdad Monday as alleged spies for Israel and the United States.
About 300 persons participated in the services and in a 15 minute silent vigil. They were mostly Jews with a sprinkling of non-Jews. Police ringed the Embassy building and there were no incidents.
The World Union of Jewish Students informed JTA today that it would conduct a peaceful protest march to the Iraq Embassy and other Arab legations here on Friday. They said they wanted to express revulsion at the Baghdad executions and the persecution of Jews in Iraq and other Arab countries.
JEWS IN GERMANY ASK WEST GERMAN GOVERNMENT TO AID JEWS OF IRAQ
The Central Council of Jews in West Germany issued a statement in Dusseldorf today deploring the Iraqi hangings. It compared them to “barbaric acts of medieval times” and appealed to Christian churches and the German Government to help the Jewish minority in Iraq.
